How important is optical zoom for a point and shoot ultra-compact camera?
It depends on how “close” you want to make your subject appear. Most of the time, 3x or maybe 4x is adequate. Do NOT count on digital zoom for ANYTHING. Only rate a camera’s zoom capabilities based on its optical zoom.
