Media Device Camera

usb showing unknown device???

I have a HP Photosmart m425 digital camera, and a compaq presario windows XP media center edition PC. I have always hooked my camera up to the usb port and loaded my pictures onto the computer. It always pops up and asks what way I want to upload the pictures, and I always pick windows camera and scanner wizard, or something like that. I hooked it in today to try to load some pics, and it made a ding noise, and said that it was an unknown device. I have used this a million times, and nothing has changed. I don’t know why this is saying its an unknown device. Does anyone know what this could be? Or how to solve it? Thanks

Just teh USB system being funny, despite it being “plug and play” it sometimes gets confused.
If restarting the PC doesn’t solve it . . .
plug in camera, wait for unknown device error
Right click “My computer” select properties, then hardware, then device manager
Scroll down to find teh “unknown device” with a yellow !
click once on it, press delete key and confirm
scroll to “Universal serial bus devices”
click the + to open it
click each “USB ROOT HUB in turn pres delete and confirm
click the USB CONTROLLER, click and press delete, confirm
UNPLUG camera
restart windows
Let windows refind all it’s USB stuff, then restart again and plug in camera
